The Indiana Music Educators Association is pleased to announce a new Composition Competition, to be held annually, open to high school and college undergraduate students. Composers in grades 9–12 must reside in Indiana and be sponsored by a school teacher or private teacher who is an IMEA member. Composers attending a college or university in Indiana must be collegiate MENC chapter members.
Composers may enter in multiple categories (see category list) but may submit only one work in each category. Each composition should have a title, and must be the student’s own work; teachers are allowed to advise only.
All composers submitting works will receive written comments from competition judges. Winning works will be recognized by an IMEA certificate, and will receive an invitation for performance at the IMEA state convention. Additional prizes may be awarded at IMEA discretion.
Deadline for submission: October 30 (postmark)

Winning works will be announced in early December, 2007
Winning works in chamber and solo categories will be invited for performance at the IMEA state convention, and it will be the composer’s responsibility to provide performers. Winning works in large ensemble categories will be considered for future convention performance by IMEA All-State or Honors groups. Composers will be responsible for creating and distributing legible parts in a timely fashion. Winning works must be performed in their original submitted forms, without significant additions or changes.
