Composition Competition

General Information

IMEA Composition Competition

The IMEA Composition Competition offers young Indiana composers the opportunity to have their work evaluated by established composers/educators who provide written feedback, so that every composer who enters can learn and grow as a creative musical thinker and imaginer. Winning works are, whenever possible, performed at the IMEA State Convention, so that other young musicians have the chance to experience performing new music – perhaps as a world premiere.

Eligibility and Entry Rules

The competition is open to high-school students in grades 9-12 who reside in Indiana and are sponsored by school or private teachers who are IMEA/MENC members.

Composers may submit works for traditional concert-music instrumental and vocal ensembles, jazz big band and combo, and "experimental" electroacoustic works. With the exception of electroacoustic works, all submissions must include a fully notated score.

Composers may enter in multiple categories, but may submit only one work per category.

All works must be submitted with a completed Entry Form and entry fee. See the Entry Information page for more details and a link to the Entry Form.
