as part of the

IMEA State Convention
January 19-21, 2012 - Fort Wayne

Since 1990, IMEA has sponsored an elementary and a middle school honor choir. Students who are participating in Circle the State with Song area festivals have the opportunity to audition for these All-State Honor Choirs. Both choirs are select groups of approximately 140 singers each. Our goal is to choose singers from each of the 12 area CSWS festivals to fill balanced parts. Both groups will perform at the IMEA STATE CONVENTION on JANUARY 20, 2012 at the Embassy Theatre, Fort Wayne, IN.

The 2012 fee for this choral experience will be $150 for the Elementary Honor Choir and for the Middle School Honor Choir. This fee includes four meals, All-State music, rehearsal recording on the IMEA web-site, and an overnight stay at the Hilton Hotel or the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, downtown Fort Wayne.

A limited number of partial scholarships is available. If the music teacher submits a scholarship application and the scholarship is awarded, the student's family is responsible for the balance of the fee. The Honor Choir scholarship form is the same as the Circle the State with Song scholarship form. The application can be found on the Circle the State with Song page of this website, within the downloadable information packet. The form is titled "2012 CSWS Scholarship Information Collection Form." Music teachers should print a copy of the scholarship form, complete it, obtain all required signatures, and then mail it to their local CSWS area coordinator.

All directors who submit auditions MUST be members of MENC/IMEA for auditions to be considered. Student auditions sent by non-member teachers will not be accepted. Remember: A student may be enrolled by a private studio or community choir director ONLY if the student’s school does not participate in the Circle the State with Song festivals. The name of the school where the student is enrolled MUST be identified during the registration process.

Teachers may submit NO MORE THAN EIGHT auditions per school, regardless of the grade configuration. Please be selective. The auditions and accompanying application form must be sent to your local AREA COORDINATOR by October 21, 2011. Teachers are asked to confirm that the auditioning student(s) will be available on Thursday and Friday, January 19 and 20, 2012, before submitting the application and audition.

Final selection will be made by the CSWS Committee in mid-November, 2011. Students and teachers will be notified of the decision no later than the third week in November, 2011  A link on the IMEA web-site will include rehearsal recordings for each piece, and the honor choir repertoire will be mailed to the student's teacher along with an important informational packet for the teacher, parent, and student.

Teachers will need to monitor the progress of honor choir singers from their school. TEACHERS, once your student(s) is selected, they must visit the web link (provided in the selection letter the student will receive via mail) and complete the registration process. Until this is completed, the student is not registered.

Please note: No rooming changes will be made once the online registration is complete. Make the correct reservation when going through the online process.

Please read carefully and follow the instructions - make sure you meet the deadlines stated in the audition process. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL DISQUALIFY THE AUDITION.

It is our pleasure to offer your students this quality opportunity to learn and grow musically. Thank you for your continued interest in and support of IMEA and its programs. If you have any questions regarding information or procedures, please contact your Circle the State with Song Area Coordinator or the 2011-12 IMEA Circle the State with Song State Chair Tina Dolbeare (tdolbeare@cpcsc.k12.in.us).
