Classroom Guitar Workshops with Suzanne Shull -Click Here to View Workshop Schedule

Indiana Music Educators Association is please to welcome Suzanne Shull to Indiana for a two week tour of our state.  Suzanne is the Tack Force Member for Guitar for MENC.  She will be presenting workshops in all of our IMEA Areas on the topic of Classroom Guitar.  Her workshop will focus on integrating guitar into general music –K-12 for one semester to 4 years addressing National Music Standards through the guitar curriculum.  Suzanne will also cover winning over the administration to include guitar in the curriculum, budgeting, acquiring the necessary equipment; guitars and methods books, storing and sharing of teaching space, classroom management strategies such seating arrangements, evaluations, and the positive outcomes of teaching guitar.

Suzanne taught primarily vocal and general music during her 30 year career in the Atlanta Metro area.  She recognized the value of guitar education early in her experiences with the instrument in general music classes, primarily in the middle school level.

Suzanne’s philosophy of active music learning can be found in the following publications: “Exploring Music Together” and “General Music Today”, “The Atlanta Symphony‘s Listen! Books” (1990-1992), “Principals and Practices in Middle Level Education” (MENC-1994), “Strategies in Teaching Middle School General Music” (MENC- 1997), and “What Are We Doing In General Music?”
